MZ Primer - Chemical Bonding agent for Metal, Zirconia and Alumina

Safety for the adhesion to metal and zirconia. MZ Primer is a one-bottle solution that promotes the bonding of resins (composite, cement, acrylic) to a variety of substrates such as metals and ceramics,including zirconia and alumina. Simple and versatile, without the need of complicated procedures, it provides long-term, reliable results.

Composition

Hema, methacrylate, PMDM, benzoyl peroxide and solvent (acetone).

MZ Primer-Recommended Usage

Laboratory use: to increase the adhesion of composite and acrylic resins to metal and Zirconia structures.

Clinical use: to increase adhesion in the cementation of crowns with metal or Zirconia frameworks and to treat metal surfaces during crown repair procedures with composite resin.

Research performed on the effect of sandblasting on zirconia is not very specific and the results depend on commercial brands. A procedure described for one brand may not provide good results and even be worse for another brand. So, it is recommended to check with the zirconia manufacturer the requirement for sandblasting.

MZ PRIMER can also be used for cementation of Prosthesis on Implants

 For this purpose the prosthesis must be roughened by sandblasting or by a fine diamond bur.

The acidic monomers are highly sensitive to sudden temperature changes and a solution, to function adequately, depends on the stability of all its components. So, it is suggested to keep it in the refrigerator to reduce a possible alteration and to increase the shelf life of the product. However, if the bottle is tightly closed and stored in a cool place, it will work perfectly.

Benefits

  • Easy application
  • Enhances adhesion of composite resins to metal, Zirconia or Alumina surfaces
  • Indicated for the clinic and the laboratory,The acidic monomers are highly sensitive to sudden temperature changes and a solution, to function adequately, depends on the stability of all its components. So, it is suggested to keep it in the refrigerator to reduce a possible alteration and to increase the shelf life of the product. However, if the bottle is tightly closed and stored in a cool place, it will work perfectly.
1. In situations where it is necessary to increase and stabilize bonding between organic materials such as resins (composite, cement, acrylic) and inorganic materials such as metals and ceramic surfaces.
2. Chemical Bonding agent for metal, Zirconia and Alumina.

INSTRUCTIONS:

CLINICAL USE

Cementing of metal-free zirconia prostheses
• Preparation of the retainer tooth:

• On natural tooth surfaces, use a bonding agent according to its specific guidelines.
If the retainer tooth presents metal surfaces (e.g.a cast metal post), these should be roughened with an abrasive microetcher/sandblaster or diamond bur, washed with abundant water and then receive a layer of MZ PRIMER (wait for 3 minutes).
IMPORTANT
• Do not allow MZ PRIMER to contact the oral tissues.
• Preparation of the zirconia restoration inner surface:
1. Roughen the inner areas of the restoration with an abrasive microetcher/sandblaster (with alumina particles);
IMPORTANT: Follow the ceramic/porcelain manufacturer’s instructions regarding the adequate time and pressure of sandblasting.
2. Clean the restoration in an ultrasound unit for 1 minute, immersed in alcohol; Do not use phosphoric acid for cleaning after micro etching.
3. Wash the area with abundant water and dry with air.
4. Apply a uniform layer of MZ PRIMER on the surface, wait for 3 minutes and dry with air.
5. Apply a layer of the bonding agent following its specific guidelines;
6. Apply the resin cement to the restoration (e.g.Cement Post) and place it on the retainer tooth.Follow the cement manufacturer´s guidelines regarding curing.Cementing of metal ceramic and metal prostheses

Preparation of the retainer tooth:
1. On natural tooth surfaces, use a bonding agent(e.g. Fusion Duralink) according to its specific guidelines.
2. If the retainer tooth presents metal surfaces (e.g.a cast metal post), these should be roughened with an abrasive microetcher/sandblaster or diamond bur, washed with abundant water and receive a layer of MZ PRIMER (wait for 3 minutes).
IMPORTANT: Do not allow MZ PRIMER to contact the oral tissues.

Preparation of internal surfaces of the metal restoration:

1. Sandblast (with aluminum oxide) the inner areas of the metal coping until it becomes opaque and homogeneous;
2. Clean the restoration in an ultrasound unit for 1 minute, immersed in water. Do not use phosphoric acid for cleaning after micro etching.
3. Wash the area with abundant water and dry with air;
4. Apply a uniform layer of MZ PRIMER on the inner surface, wait for 3 minutes and dry with air;
5. Apply a layer of the bonding agent according to its specific guidelines;
6. Apply the resin cement to the restoration (e.g. Cement Post) and place it on the retainer tooth. Follow the cement manufacturer´s guidelines regarding curing.

Cementing of prefabricated metal and cast posts

Follow the same procedures described for the cementing of metal ceramic prostheses on natural tooth surfaces.

Repair of metal ceramic prostheses with composite resin
IMPORTANT: For this procedure, always isolate with rubber dam to avoid any contact between the chemicals and the oral tissues.
1. With a diamond bur, bevel the ceramic repair site; if there is exposed metal, roughen it with a sandblaster or diamond bur;
2. Apply ANGELUS PORCELAIN CONDITIONER (10% Hydrofluoric Acid) on the beveled surface, wait for 1 minute, wash with water and dry with air;
IMPORTANT: Protect the oral tissues from the corrosive action of the hydrofluoric acid.
3. Apply ANGELUS SILANO on the ceramic surface, wait for 1 minute and dry with air;
4. Apply a uniform layer of MZ PRIMER on the metal, wait for 3 minutes and dry with air;
5. Cover the metal with ANGELUS OPAK opaque resin;
6. Apply FUSION DURALINK bonding agent according to its instructions;
7. Repair the fractured site with a composite resin. Repair of zirconia prostheses
IMPORTANT: For this procedure, always isolate with rubber dam to avoid any contact between the chemicals and the oral tissues.
1. Bevel the fractured restoration site with a diamond bur;
2. Apply MZ-PRIMER, wait for 3 minutes and dry with air;
3. Apply bonding agent according to its instructions;
4. Repair the fractured site with a composite resin
