Defence Against Clinical Variability

Zipbond Universal is a single component fluoride releasing universal adhesive, compatible with self etch, selective etch and total etch techniques. In the presence of varied tooth structure and an abundance of restorative choices, Zipbond Universal achieves reproducible and reliable bond strengths..

Consistent Bond Strengths

Zipbond Universal achieves successful bond strengths across dentine and enamel using self etch and total etch techniques.

  • Zipbond Universal has minimal fluctuation in bond strength using the total etch technique on enamel, demonstrating the ability to achieve predictable results in each use.
  • The heterogenous nature of dentine and variability in mineral and water content adds complexity to dentine bonding1.
  • The carefully selected chemistry of Zipbond Universal overcomes the challenges associated with dentine bonding to provide strong and reproducible bond strengths in self etch and total etch techniques.
  • Select Zipbond Universal for consistent adhesion, predictable clinical outcomes.

Predictable Bond Strengths to Indirect Substrates

Zipbond Universal achieves high bond strengths to composite, ceramic, porcelain and metal substrates.

  • Bond strength across indirect substrates is comparable, highlighting reliable adhesion for these restorative situations.
  • Use Zipbond Universal, together with your preferred indirect restorative material, with confidence.

Proprietary combination of adhesive monomers

Zipbond Universal contains two adhesive monomers that work in harmony to deliver a durable and robust bond. A proprietary combination of monomers, including the MDP monomer, makes adhesion effective on enamel, dentine and a range of indirect substrates.

  • The adhesive monomers contain hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. Hydrophilic monomers quickly infiltrate into enamel and dentine tubules.
  • Effective wettability is achieved as the adhesive spreads homogenously over the tooth surface, offering a complete seal of dentine tubules.
  • Upon curing, the hydrophobic monomers reduce the permeability of water to create a sound interface and strong interaction between tooth and substrate.

Features

Exceptional control: Controlled handling, optimal film thickness and increased bond strength is achieved by the incorporation of nanofillers. Zipbond Universal is easy to apply in a homogenous thin layer. Indirect restorations can be seated with precision to deliver an unobstructed seal against the tooth.
Highly aesthetic: The adhesive is visible upon placement and virtually invisible on dentine after it is cured. It is ideal for use in aesthetic zones with bleach and translucent restorative materials.
Fluoride releasing: The primary factor in the premature failure of moderate to large composite restorations is secondary decay at the margins of the restorations’3. Zipbond Universal is fluoride releasing to protect the tooth-restorative interface against demineralisation. An effective marginal seal that fights recurrent decay results in a longer lasting restoration.
Pleasant aroma: Zipbond Universal is mild in its aroma to support your patients comfort during restorative procedures.

Clinical Tips

  • Try it as a desensitizer, as well as for bonding.
  • The light color makes it great for anterior esthetics.

Instructions to use

Preparation:
1. Isolation techniques must be used to prevent contamination.
2. Rubber dam is the preferred mode of isolation.
3. In cases where pulp protection is necessary, use a calcium hydroxide liner.
Tooth Preparation
1. Remove loose preparation debris by spraying with water.
2. Gently air-dry using 2-3 bursts of oil/water-free air or cotton pellets.
! Do not over dry the cavity. The cavity surface should have a slightly glossy appearance (do not desiccate).
Over drying can lead to post-operative sensitivity.

DIRECT ADHESIVE APPLICATION

Self-Etch Technique
Bottle delivery: Dispense one or two drops (depending on restoration size) of Zipbond Universal into a mixing well. Immediately replace the cap.
Unit dose delivery: Open the unit dose device and insert a brush applicator (e.g. SDI Points) into the container to saturate the tip.
NOTE: Proceed to the next steps quickly as the liquid can evaporate and result in poor bonding.
1. Apply adhesive into the cavity by scrubbing for 10 seconds with a brush (e.g. SDI Points).
2. Leave on cavity surface for 10 seconds.
3. Blow with water/oil-free air until you see no movement of the bond (minimum 5 seconds).
NOTE: A vacuum aspirator can be used to prevent adhesive liquid from scattering.
4. Light cure for 10 seconds (460-480nm wavelength, high power LED curing light such as Radii Plus).
5. Place composite such as Aura, Aura Easy or Aura Bulk Fill, or place indirect restoration according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.

Selective Etch Technique
1. Apply phosphoric acid etching gel (e.g. SDI Super Etch 37%) to tooth enamel and leave for 10 seconds.
2. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with water/oil- free air or with cotton pellets. Do not over dry.
3. Apply adhesive according to steps in ‘Self-Etch Technique’.

Total Etch Technique 1. Apply phosphoric acid etching gel 37% (e.g. SDI Super Etch) to tooth structure (enamel & dentine) and leave for 10 seconds.
2. Rinse thoroughly with water and dry with water/oil- free air or with cotton pellets. Do not over dry.
3. Apply adhesive according to ‘Self Etch Technique’.

Composite repair of porcelain and hybrid ceramic restorations
1. Prepare substrate according to Manufacturer’s Instructions For Use.
2. Apply adhesive to the substrate by scrubbing for 10 seconds with a brush (e.g. SDI Points).
3. Leave on substrate surface for 10 seconds.
4. Blow with water/oil-free air until you see no movement of the bond (minimum 5 seconds).
NOTE: A vacuum aspirator can be used to prevent adhesive liquid from scattering.
5. Light cure for 10 seconds (460-480nm wavelength, high power LED curing light such as Radii Plus).
6. Place composite such as Aura or Aura Easy according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Sealing exposed root surfaces which are causing hypersensitivity

1. Clean tooth surface according to ‘Tooth Preparation’.
2. Apply adhesive to tooth surface according to ‘Self Etch Technique’.
3. Apply a composite (eg SDI Wave, Wave MV or Wave HV) according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
Core build ups using light cure/dual cure composites
1. Apply Zipbond Universal to tooth structure to be crowned according to ‘Self Etch Technique’
2. Place light cure composites such as Aura, Aura Easy, Aura Bulk Fill or dual cure composite according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.
NOTE: Zipbond Universal must be light cured before applying a dual cure composite.
3. Begin initial crown preparation
Protective varnish for glass ionomer (GI) filling
1. Apply Zipbond Universal to the prepared tooth and scrub for 10 seconds with a brush (e.g. SDI points.
2. Leave on the prepared tooth surface for 10 seconds.
3. Blow with water/oil-free air until you see no movement of the bond (minimum 5 seconds).
4. Light cure for 10 seconds (460-480nm wavelength, high power LED curing light).
5. Adjust the occlusion if necessary and reapply the adhesive to the adjusted areas to ensure the surface of the GI is protected.
6. Use a cotton pellet to remove the oxygen inhibition layer.
